Calories, kcal and kJ

The “Calories” on most food labels are actually kilocalories (kcal). In many countries labels also show kilojoules (kJ): multiply kcal by 4.184 to get kJ, or divide kJ by 4.184 to get kcal.

Converting height and weight

  • Height in feet and inches → cm: (feet × 12 + inches) × 2.54.
  • Weight in pounds → kg: pounds × 0.4536.
  • Stone and pounds → kg: (stone × 14 + pounds) × 0.4536.
